O N E .

Good morning Olivia. Today is your first birthday, 2 - 24 - 2015! We celebrated it this past Saturday, and what a wonderful time it was. Since you are a winter baby, just a heads up that sometimes the weather is going to hinder folks from joining us to celebrate you, and it did a little this time, but it definitely didn’t sour the day! There were friends and family, cake and balloons! You got to open presents and make a giant mess. It was sheer joy to watch you bop from person to person hosting your party. You’re a natural.

On your actual birthday your dad and I took you to the aquarium to grab some dinner and let you gaze at the fish. I think what you enjoyed the most was standing against the glass allowing yourself to be close to the fish. Then when a fish would come face to face with you, your eyes would get really wide and you’d smile. The food may not have been amazing, but your reaction was priceless!

Your birth day is one of the happiest days for your dad and I. It was so fun, and I will always make sure that day is the most fun day for you, because it was for us. Laughter and smiles! I can’t wait to tell you about how you arrived. It was funny and silly, just simply a joy to experience!

It’s hard to believe how our lives have changed since you’ve joined us. I believe we are improved people because of you. You are rotten, in the best way and you have the most personality I’ve ever seen from someone as tiny as you! When you were born, you were quiet. You did not cry, which scared your dad and I terribly and put a fear inside I don’t ever want you to feel. But then you did. You screamed and it was beautiful, but you did it when you were ready. As a wee babe, smiles came only when you wanted to give them. You have always been observant and study anyone who wants to interact with you before allowing them. It has been fascinating to watch you exert your personality even when you yourself have no idea who you are yet. Or do you?

This year is going to hold a lot for you. Your “mama’s” & “dada’s” will transform into small sentences. You’re going to be walking soon, although just like anything else, only when you’re ready. You will be learning reasoning and requests. You may figure out how to put your sock on, and I’ll have to watch out because I just know when you can you will be trying to jump into the bathtub without warning! You are so feisty and independent, so fiercely independent.

You also really love to eat. It’s tremendous fun introducing you to new foods, especially since you eat what we are eating now. You became a toddler overnight it seems! I brought milk into your diet recently, and you aren’t sure how to feel about it. Every sip you take you look confused, so I just tell you it’s “milk” and then offer your water too. You are still a big water fan. Score!

There is so much to say to you little one, yet I am scrambling for all of the words I want to share. We love you so much and are so lucky to be your parents.

Happy 1st Birthday Olivia!
